<p>Stress is the result of the physical and emotional effects that continuous change has on our bodies and minds. Although stress can have positive influence on behavior, such as urging a person to quick action or offering a fresh perspective on problems, it does more harm than good. Stress can arouse emotions of anger, mistrust, rejection and depression and physical symptoms of rashes, migraines, indigestion and ulcers. More serious consequences of stress include cardiac problems, strokes and hypertension.</p>
<p>While it is true that stress is an inherent part of human life, it is not true that we have to live with the problem. Since it is usually change of some sort that brings about stress, adjusting comfortably to new situations can help combat stress and its unpleasant effects. We&#8217;re not trying to eliminate stress; we do need that kind of pressure and excitement to meet deadlines, compete and achieve high levels of performance. Without a certain amount of pressure, we would be bored and de-motivated. What we need to do is channelize stress, manage it, so that urges us on without breaking us down!</p>
<p>Here are some simple stress reduction exercises:</p>
<p>Firstly, assess the stress you face and your reactions to it. Find out how you can change what&#8217;s bothering and deal with the root problem. If you can&#8217;t change things, don&#8217;t let yourself become frustrated with your inability: work around the problem or learn how to cope with it calmly.</p>
<p>Learn to say &#8220;no&#8221; when you don&#8217;t really want to do something &ndash; it saves trouble in the end; and learn how and when to relax. Make sure you get enough time to just be yourself. Try to do things you really enjoy.</p>
<p>There are also some stress reducer tools that you can apply to manage stress. For one, reduce your reaction &ndash; take a moderate, more positive view and you&#8217;ll find stress easier to manage. Use breathing as a calming technique &ndash; slow, deep inhalation and exhalation will reduce tension and help you gain control over your reactions.</p>
<p>Make sure your physical reserves of energy are well-stocked up. Regular exercise, a healthy weight, good nutrition habits and adequate leisure time are all conducive to battling stress. You&#8217;ll find yourself less susceptible if your life is healthy and happy! Try to avoid nicotine and alcohol, too &ndash; they are temporary stress-easers, but will not help you in the long run.</p>
<p>And as far as emotional reserves are concerned, make sure you have lots of good friends and supportive family relationships. Don&#8217;t get bogged down by setbacks and failure &ndash; they&#8217;re just part of life &ndash; so be realistic. And don&#8217;t forget to be nice to yourself!</p>
<p>Some prescription medications can help reduce stress, but you should not get dependent on them. It is better to rely on simple, non-chemical methods. More formal stress reducer tools include exercise, meditation, conflict resolution, autogenic training, relaxation techniques, time management and cognitive therapy. Listening to music can be very effective, laughter eases stress like nothing else can; and sex is a great way to unwind, too!</p>

<p>Stress is viewed as almost natural in our busy modern day lives but there are a number of things you can do to positively affect your personal stress management. Here are some tips to help you to reduce the stress in your everyday life.</p>
<p>1. Get more exercise</p>
<p>When you exercise your body releases &#8220;happy&#8221; chemicals called endorphins. These help you to feel better and are a much better (and cheaper) alternative to prescription drugs. Trouble is, most people think &#8220;gym&#8221; when someone mentions exercise. This doesn&#8217;t have to be the case. Any form of exercise is better than none. A brisk walk will do nicely. So will leaving your car further away in the parking lot and walking a few extra steps to the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and you&#8217;ll be doing easy exercise to help yourself.</p>
<p>2. Take up meditation or yoga</p>
<p>Both of these techniques give you an easy way to help your body relax. Attending a local yoga class once a week will help you to relax and unwind your tensions. Or consider listening to one of the modern meditation CDs that do almost all the work for you &#8211; no special sitting positions, no mantras to chant, just sit back, listen and let the audio on the CD take you into a deep trance state that used to be reserved only for Zen monks.</p>
<p>3. Get a new hobby or re-visit one of your old hobbies</p>
<p>If you used to be engaged in a hobby but dropped it due to lack of time, now is your chance to go back to your old hobby or find a new one. Hobbies are your ticket to becoming absorbed in something new and different, without the stresses associated with your work or home life. Unless your new hobby is a sport, there&#8217;s probably no-one that you&#8217;ll be competing against apart from yourself, so there shouldn&#8217;t be any extra stresful tensions associated with this choice.</p>
<p>4. Diarize some &#8220;you&#8221; time</p>
<p>Your diary is probably full of all the things you have to do for other people, whether the items are for work or family commitments. Most people who suffer from stress put themselves last on their list, which can leave them no time for themselves. Put some time in your diary to devote to yourself. Make sure that other people around you don&#8217;t violate this time &#8211; if need be, book into somewhere to experience this time. Maybe a weekly cinema visit or a meal with someone close to you? Or some time pampering yourself? Even a nice, long, relaxing bath? Just make sure that you devote at least some time to yourself every week.</p>
<p>5. Use your vacation time</p>
<p>Stressed out people have a habit of not taking the vacations they are due. You need vacation time to recharge your own batteries. You&#8217;ll find that you return to work revitalized and raring to go again. At least so long as you don&#8217;t take your work with you&#8230; Leave your cell phone at home or go somewhere remote with no reception. It&#8217;s your vacation, enjoy it!</p>

<p>Take what this fat does to your liver as an example. Your liver works to transform this fat and this fat then becomes cholesterol in the body. Not the good kind either. We all know what cholesterol does to arteries. </p>
<p>It’s fat turned into plaque carried in your blood that sticks to the arteries and in the heart, this plaque constricts the amount of blood able to flow through. When the plaque builds up enough, the blood can’t pass through the artery and it leads to a heart attack. </p>

<p>It is an obvious thing to do yet those who need to do it, simply don&#8217;t do it. Too much fat in your diet is a bad thing so the natural thing for you to do is to cut down on saturated fat products like diary foods, fat meat, greasy burgers, etc. </p>
<p>Remember all that  fat that you eat will go into your blood stream and stick to your arteries like glue and when that happens, it is very difficult to shake them off. And you will end up with belly fat or fat all over your body.</p>

<p>But there are certain type of food that you must eat more. These are high fiber foods which will help your body flush out excess fat from your diet. A diet rich in fiber may help. Research shows that people who eat 10 grams of soluble fiber per day, without any other diet changes, build up less visceral and other fat over time than others. </p>
<p>High fiber foods include all vegetables and fruits (the not so sweet variety like apples, pears, etc)</p>
<p><b> iv)  Get the best results from your exercises      </b></p>

<p>Ask yourself &#8211; why do you have stomach fat? This question isn&#8217;t meant as a criticism, but is rather meant to get you to think about the lifestyle choices that you have made in the past.</p>
<p>In order to address the problem of excess stomach fat, we really need to take a look at two very important factors &#8211; exercise and diet. In fact, if you can get just these two parts of your lifestyle in order, then it&rsquo;s easy to burn stomach fat.</p>
<p>The usual cause of stubborn belly fat is a lack of exercise. To find out if this is the case, ask yourself this question: are you currently working out for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, five days a week? Are you splitting your workouts between strength training and aerobic activity?</p>
<p>If your answer to the above is &#8216;no&#8217;, or if your activity level is so low that the idea of working out makes you break out in a cold sweat, then we need to address this problem.</p>
<p>Your eating habits are another obvious area to analyze. Are you consuming more than your body actually needs? One way to determine this is to consult a chart on your basal metabolic rate. If you are indeed consuming too many calories, then cutting down is a must if you want to achieve your weight loss goals.</p>
<p>You may be suffering from a very low metabolic rate due to lack of proper nutrition. This can lead to some people being overweight even though they only eat one or meals per day. The science behind this is that the human body adapts to poor nutrition and irregular eating schedules by storing up food as fat, because it doesn&#8217;t know when it will be receiving food again. <p>Burn more calories than you are eating.</p>
<p>One of the best ways to burn belly fat off is a reduced calorie diet. Reduced calorie diets are extremely effective in loosing weight and burning fat. The benefit of reduced calorie diet is that you do not have to change the foods that you eat, just eat a little less.</p>
<p>You do not have to starve yourself with a reduced calorie diet. Even though a reduced calorie diet requires that you cut the calories you eat, you should only cut down a little. Cutting calories to a point of starving yourself will not work because the body has a mechanism for keeping fat to survive.</p>
<p>Cutting down on the calories you eat is actually simple to do but it&rsquo;s not easy. You should do is purchase a calorie counter book or look up common foods online to help you. You&rsquo;ll see how much calories each food contains.</p>
<p>Exercise Regularly</p>
<p>Exercising complements a reduced calorie diet because you burn calories with exercise. So, the more calories you burn, the more fat you may burn. While exercise is very important, you still need a healthy diet to optimize your body&rsquo;s fat burning process.</p>
<p>Exercises such as weight training builds muscle. As you build muscle, you burn more calories. Muscles need food to build, therefore you burn calories. Exercise also makes your body to work more efficiently by increasing blood flow.</p>

<br />Start Making the Right Food Choices</p>
<p>As I said above you can eat a little less and start to burn belly fat off. However, I would like to discuss the type of calories you eat. If you want to streamline the fat burning process you have to cut out empty calories.</p>
<p>Even if you are burning more calories than you are taking in, you need to start thinking about increasing the quality of your calories. Here are some easy changes you can make to help you burn belly fat off.</p>
<p>If you drink soda, start to gradually cut down or eliminate soda from your diet and start drinking water. Soda contains a lot of processed sugar and can add unwanted calories to your diet. If you drink about 3 to 4 cans a day. That is a possible 450 &ndash; 600 calories of unneeded calories per day.</p>
<p>Try to cut processed foods for foods in a natural state. If you enjoy fast food during the work day, try bringing in your lunch. For example, replace the burger and fries with meat and a baked potato. If you use the proper proportions, you are bound to save calories and you will be feeding your body better.</p>
<p>While burning off belly fat is simple it may be challenging. As we discussed it is very hard work since you cannot spot reduce a section of your body. However, with some basic changes and persistence, you&rsquo;ll be able to trim down your belly.</p>

<p>The first defense against unhealthy responses to stress is not Tylenol, Motrin&#8230;, but instead deep breathing. Caution, if you suffer from panic/anxiety and or agoraphobia, this technique is not recommended until after the symptoms are history. This is because breathing techniques require internal focusing which is not recommended for anxiety sufferers. For them external relaxation techniques are recommended&#8211;see the resource box.</p>
<p>In response to stress, it is normal that our breathing is immediately affected. It becomes shallow and upper chest which is actually part of the defense mechanism. Even that a sigh is usually a tense upper chest unhealthy breadth.</p>
<p>We generally make three basic mistakes in breathing:</p>
<p>&#8226; We&rsquo;re so consumed with our appearance that we learn to hold in our stomachs which greatly limits our breathing to the upper chest.</p>
<p>&#8226; Then when we do take a deep breadth, we force our lungs to expand against our chest putting chest muscles in spasm. This can create chest and back pain.</p>
<p>&#8226; Some of us lift our shoulders to take in that deep breadth. It&#8217;s called &#8220;clavicle breathing&#8221; and it contributes to neck and headache.</p>
<p>Life is about stress and as we adapt to higher and higher levels of stress from one year to the next, our normal breathing becomes tense. Even as we sleep, we may breathe in a tense manner. The tense breathing also starves the body of much needed oxygen, affects our posture, and blocks our Chakras&#8211;the natural flow of energy through our bodies.</p>
<p>No matter what the physical health problem&#8211;headaches, neckaches, muscle pain&#8230; (all direct effects of stress), or disease such as cancer, heart disease&#8230; it&#8217;s important to address breathing (except for anxiety sufferers as previously noted). The problem is that no one makes any money from deep breathing. No drugs are required so you will not hear an announcement on the radio, &#8220;Remember to do your stress reduction deep breathing exercise!&#8221;</p>
<p>Look for times during the day when you are feeling stressed, under pressure, in a rush, defensive, tense&#8230; It&#8217;s during these times that instead of tensing as you normally would, that you instead remember to do your stress relief deep breathing.</p>
<p>And all you have to do to engage your first defense against stress is to consciously become aware of your breathing. Then shift from your upper chest tense breathing consciously to an abdominal breath.</p>
<p>How to take an abdominal breadth&ndash;the first defense against stress:</p>
<p>&#8226; Let your stomach and abdomen relax.<br />
<br />&#8226; Breathe down through your chest into your stomach.<br />
<br />&#8226; Let your stomach expand outward.<br />
<br />&#8226; Let your chest expand slightly at the end of the breadth.</p>
<p>As you exhale:</p>
<p>&#8226; Pull your stomach inward.<br />
<br />&#8226; Expel all the air up through your chest.</p>
<p>If you can hear yourself breathe, you are breathing too fast. Ten to twelve breaths per minute is find. If you feel your shoulders lifting as you inhale, it is a tense breadth. Just let your shoulders be loose and limp as you inhale and exhale. Let your arms hang from your shoulder like rope.</p>
<p>If you have the time, take a class in Yoga breathing to get in some serious breathing. Yoga will provide many healthful benefits.</p>
<p>When to do your deep breathing: Make a list of times during the day when it would be appropriate to take advantage of the deep breathing stress management technique such as:</p>
<p>&#8226; Whenever you&#8217;re at a red light.<br />
<br />&#8226; As you&rsquo;re waiting for your computer to load a program or shut down.<br />
<br />&#8226; Before answering the phone or making a phone call.<br />
<br />&#8226; As you listen to someone conversing with you.<br />
<br />&#8226; Before eating or drinking.<br />
<br />&#8226; Before entering a building or an office.<br />
<br />&#8226; Whenever you notice yourself feeling stressed.<br />
<br />&#8226; Whenever you can remember to take a deep breadth.</p>
<p>Remember, no one makes money on deep breathing so you will not hear an announcer on the radio reminding you to take your deep breadth exercise to manage stress.</p>

<p>You&#8217;ve heard the song, &#8220;Burn baby burn, disco inferno!&#8221; but probably never realized that it was about your body&#8217;s inflammatory response to chronic nutrition related threats. &#8220;Satisfaction (uhu hu hu) came in the chain reaction (burnin&#8217;) I couldn&#8217;t get enough, (till I had to self-destroy) so I had to self destruct.&#8221; Suddenly &#8216;Disco Inferno&#8217; by The Trammps is no longer quite so amusing. By pushing our body to react to diet related problems, we trigger a continuous inflammatory response that ultimately weakens our immune system and causes the proliferation of disease, resulting, as the song so ominously puts it, in our self-destruction. What triggers this massive inflammatory response? How exactly does it damage our body? And most importantly, what can we do about it? Read on as The Trammps and I seek to elucidate the dangers and remedies to this lethal condition.</p>
<p>&#8220;To mass fires, yes! One hundred stories high, People gettin&#8217; loose y&#8217;all gettin&#8217; down on the roof &#8211; Do you hear?&#8221; As the song reveals, we do indeed build fires in our system whenever the body is injured or encounters an infection. Part of the immune system&#8217;s response to such threats is to send out inflammatory cells to attack and destroy the offenders and protect the healthy cells. However, when the body is faced with numerous simultaneous threats, your immune system enters a state of chronic inflammation, which can lead to disease as the body changes its regular responses. The &#8216;massing of those fires&#8217; can lead to diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular and heart disease.</p>
<p>The inflammatory response is the body&#8217;s reaction to injury or toxins. Take heart disease as an example. Cholesterol particles trapped in the artery wall become oxidized, and are then engulfed by inflammatory cells, leading to the formation of plaque, which can eventually rupture and cause a heart attack. And where does this cholesterol come from? Your diet.</p>
<p>&#8220;Folks were screamin&#8217; &#8211; out of control.&#8221; Indeed. The typical American diet is ridiculously high in red meat, Omega 6 fats, trans fats and high fructose corn syrup, all of which can provoke inflammation by providing chemical pathways that cause a chronic inflammatory state in the body. Arthritis and periodontal disease also lead to inflammation and can result in heart disease, while obesity can cause a general low-grade chronic inflammation. Adipose, or fat cells, can release inflammatory proteins into the blood stream, while obesity is correlated with the presence of C-reactive protein (CRP), one of the markers of inflammation that is produced by your liver.</p>
<p>&#8220;Everybody&#8217;s goin&#8217; strong (uhu hu hu), And that is when my spark got hot.&#8221; You can go strong too if you follow certain basic principles to avoid chronic inflammation. The first and easiest way to reverse or prevent such a state is to change your diet so that it excludes processed foods and follows something more akin to the Mediterranean Diet (high in fruit, veggies, and whole grains and low in lean meat, fish, olive oil and wine.)Also, consume nuts and beans, which both have anti-inflammatory effects. Finally, and equally crucial, get moving! &#8220;Burn baby burn! Disco inferno!&#8221; Whether you&#8217;re dancing, jumping, skipping, running, lifting weights or just shaking your groove thang, exercise can help lower the count of inflammatory proteins.</p>
