Open Question: can you slim down with weightlifting?

im on a three meals a day diet _ with nothing in between
and i wanted to know if its possible to slim down with weightlifting and a diet
im still getting my protein intake though
so i want to know if the calories i burn while weightlifting help my chances while im on a diet
i want to slim down, not necessarily lose weight
cause i know weight training helps build muscle, which is heavier than fat
but as far as looking slimmer, even bulky
can it happen with a diet and weights ?
i just dont want to look all flabby and saggy
