Here are more weight loss myths you should be aware of :-
Myth #3: Low-fat or no fat food is always a good choice.
Fact: This may sound good but the only low fat foods that are also low in calories are fruits. The rest of the huge low-fat or non-fat group are not a safe choice if you are dieting. These so-called low fat products may have added sugar, starch or flour to make them taste better. What does this mean? You get extra calories that is is bad for you. You must remember to check the list of ingredients on packages whenever you decide to buy any “low-fat” stuffs.
Myth #4: Gong “vegetarian” will help you lose weight and stay healthy.
Fact: Nothing is further from the truth. Becoming a vegetarian will not help you lose weight if you don’t know how to plan your meal properly.
The key to make it work is to make sure that the vegetarian diet will give your body all the nutrients and calories it needs. Eating tons of foods that are not nutritious can be bad. Yes, they make you feel full but you are denying your body of its natural cravings.
Because plants tend to have lesser nutrients than meat, you will have to eat more “plant food” than before to make up for this difference. Not to mention that a strictly vegetarian diet will not get you enough vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron, calcium and zinc. These substances are taken mostly from dairy products and eggs in a regular diet, but true vegetarians can’t touch those. You’ll have to rely on the few and uncommon vegetables that can provide these substances.
Myth #5: Dairy products make you fat and cause heart problems.
Fact: Every and his mum know that eating a lot of dairy products is a sure way to high blood pressure and stroke. But dairy products are a solid source of calcium that helps keep your bones strong and healthy. It is a necessity for children and should not be overlooked by adults. Dairy products contain vitamin D. This is crucial to maintaining the normal levels of calcium and phosphorus in your bloodstream.
You don’t have to gain weight from dairy products – simply opt for low-fat or non-fat brands. There are enough of those around to keep you slim and happy. Drink soy or rice milk if you are lactose-intolerant . These alternatives may not taste exactly the same as true milk, but it’s still good and nutritious.
Do you love butter and margarine? Then you have something to worry about here. They do contain high levels of fat. If you can’t do without them, then stick to butter. Why? Because margarine is an over-processed fat that is not particularly good for you.
