There are lots of myths surrounding the issue of losing weight. If you believe in them, they may make your weight problem even worse.
Here are some myths and facts you will do well to know :
Myth #1: A high protein/low carb diet is good for you
Fact: With this diet, you get your daily requirement of calories mostly from protein foods, such as meat and a very small portion from foods containing carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes and fruits).
While this may sound good, it is a problem in that many common and popular foods are forbidden, which leads to boredom for you. Boredom and frustration will eventually lead to quiting for you. Also there is not enough nutrients from carbohydrate class of foods and the risk of getting a higher cholesterol levels from too much meat.
A high protein/low carb diets may help you lose weight but it’s not just fat that goes away. You may lose some of your lean muscle mass and a lot of water as the kidneys work harder to rid the body of excess waste from protein and fat. Needless to say, this is not good for you in the longer run.
Myth #2: You can achieve permanent weight loss with fad diets.
Fact: Fad diets are not good for your health and can not lead to permanent weight loss. Like any other diet that tells you to cut this or that food from your daily meals, fad diets are just fads, they don’t work.
How can diets that cut out foods without regard for the needs of your body be healthy for you? Cutting out certain foods can creats unwanted cravings in you. And you know too well what cravings can do to your weight.
The key to making weight loss permanent is more exercise and to avoid eating junk, fat foods.
